Thanks for the comments Flipper. My wife said to me this morning that if we lived far away from the family, and she had to fake it with some unknonwn congregation it wouldn't be so bad. But as it stands, there is to much history and emotion between her parents, the Elders at the Hall, and her sister.

ethical consequences of faking reinstatement...
by drew sagan ini know that there are enough of you out there who can add good points to this discussion, and i await your opinions.
however, please be aware that i wish for you to take great care in your posts.
i am not interested in haphazard responses.. so as to not give away too many details, i'll simply say that recent events have caused my in-laws to strongly desire my wife to fake a reinstatement.

I'm going back to the meetings with my mom

she needs this before she drives me nuts.
i'm known in the area as 'el apostata'.

I have not been officially d/f'd apparently. We have not been to a meeting in 4 years.
Don't you think that your presence in the Hall may spark a JC? Especially since you are dressing to stand out? The elders may want to 'protect their flock'.

Russian JWs in Serious Trouble - about to be banned
by Dogpatch inalthough it has been leading up to this for a long time, it appears russia has made up their mind to get rid of "extremist" groups by banning them, and jws are pretty much at the top of the list.
the last few years under putin they have been giving them heaps of trouble.. .
i am not for bans as it usually backfires, but under the "new" admnistration it looks like hard-core responses are in order.

I just want to comment on this notion of "blame".
There really is enough of it to go around. Neither of the major players at the top of these organizations consider the adverage person. They make their decisions based on their own needs, goals, etc. The Watchtower is going to do what it thinks is in its 'interests' and the Russian Orthodox Church will do the same.
When it comes to Jehovah's Witnesses 'dangerous' nature, there are really only a few doctrines that the state really can legitimatly complain about. Disfellowshipping and the coercing children to follow the blood doctrine are really the only two that come to mind.
It sucks that the Watchtower organization is too stubborn to retract policies that are not only harmful to their members, but are also used to spark percecution from others. Its equally as shameful that others will blow out of porportion the dangers of the Witnesses, stating that if they are not banned they are an immediate threat to the state (which they are not).
As with most things on this planet, the powerful choose the fate of the weak.

The guy that claimed he was going to bring down the WTBTS
by Scarred for life ini haven't been on the board for several weeks until yesterday.
there was a guy that was a regular poster that was starting some kind of email campaign that he claimed was going to bring down the wtbts.
i can't remember his name.

What "brings down" an organization like the JWs (or any religion for that matter) is internal fighting. Just look at the World Wide Church of God or even the Episcipal Church.

If her mother feels so strongly about it, she should go undercover to do the extraction herself.
To be clear, this was never about going back into the faith to help somebody out. That would at least have some kind of goal. Instead, they wanted my wife to pretend to be JW to the elders, congregation, and sister so that contact could be made again between the two. The mother is a devout JW and does not wish to leave the JWs.

Just a final wrap up of the situation.
My wife told her parents her decision, that she will not go along with this plan. I think the most frustrating thing about this episode for my wife is the fact that her parents can make all these pleadings, but never once were open to hearing her point of view. She becomes trivialized and belittled every time she brings up her objections.
For these reasons, this entire thing is a no go. The last few conversations she had with her parents seem to indicate that this isn't going to come up again. I especially feel sorry for her dad (who is not a JW and probably wishes his family never became JWs) but this is just going to be the way it has to be.

Graph from Dec 15 09 Wt on How to Apportion Your Time to Remain Joyful. Crazy....
by Hopscotch inhere is a scan from the dec 15 09 wt (study ed) with a graph of how a witness should apportion their time to remain joyful.. .
so according to this graph, to remain joyful a witness should spend 3 times as much of his waking hours in 'theocratic activities' as he should in secular work!
hopscotch.

The WTS is using web 2.0 graphics!
Amazing how this is really telling a JW to spend half of their time in theocratic activities without directly saying so. Easy to deny that this graph is not representational, yet it suggests an absurd demand.

It seems the more loving thing to do is let the stubborn sibling live the live s/he has chosen and the painful consequences of that choice. Hopefully, somewhere along the way s/he will get wise to the cult.
Yes, this is pretty much the conclusion that we have reached. The only sticky point is that her parents from time to time have had these blown up confrontations, where they make extreme emotional pleas for her to come back. This puts a ton of pressure on my wife, and to some extent she feels obligated to give this a chance in order to settle this issue (although I don't think it will actually settle it).
We talked about it this morning, and my wife basically said that she really doesn't feel like she will be able to go through with this. I simply do not want to have to go through all of this family turmoil all of the time, so I am going to interject (so far I haven't spoken to her mother about this stuff). I'm going to say that if our family is going to put up a huge sacrifice to cover over the pains caused by the watchtower, she has to make a sacrifice as well. I'm going to introduce her to Crisis of Conscience as well as In Search of Christian Freedom, and state that out of respect for our family it is our request that she read these books.

There is no way I could criticize any person who had the balls to go undercover into any cult to rescue a family member or friend.
Yes, but that is not what is being discussed here. Instead my wife is contemplating of faking a return to have some nominal contact form time to time with a sibling that does not know the return was not genuine (with further deceptions organized by both her parents)
